Much has been written about the role of DNA in relation to our inherited capabilities and disease. The old vision was
that genes are self actualising (turn on and off). And the view that old age was certainly dictated by the DNA, in fact, it
became the belief that the DNA controls life.
But Dr. Bruce Lipton author of “Biology of Belief” an internationally recognized authority in bridging
science and spirit revealed something entirely different. The current data reveals that there is no such thing as an
on/off function for a gene because genes are blueprints (plans) to make proteins, which are the building blocks that give
shape to the structure.
Dr. Lipton’s research in cell biology produced breakthrough studies on the cell membrane.
His research at Stanford
University’s School of Medicine, revealed that the environment, operating through the membranes, controlled the behaviour
and physiology of the cell, turning genes on and off-
This has led to the science of epigenetics, validated by other researchers.
In simple terms, the
DNA is heavily influenced by our mental, psychological and emotional states. Research has found that under
stress or in anger, microphotographs were showing the double helix to be compressing and forming spike-like
protrusions- it just did not look very healthy; whereas with love or compassion or gratitude, the helix seemed to swell
and plump up to a fuller and more robust profile.
Dr. Lipton’s
work is revolutionary and it dovetails with mind-body medicine and spiritual principles. It is in tune with the great spiritual
teachings and the ‘new’ sciences that show we are actually masters of our own biology.
In
fact, our cells and our DNA are more influenced by our thoughts, our beliefs and our imagination than anything else around
us. We are not victims of our genetics but rather victims of our environment, which mostly stems from our imagination and
our beliefs.
Dr. Lipton was recently nominated to receive the Goi Peace Foundation Forum award
in Nov. 2009. His contribution to the world has given a greater understanding of life and the true nature of humanity. His
work has empowered the public to take control of their own lives and become responsible co-creators.
